Recommended books

These are some of Theolyn's favourite books on angels and spirituality. If you would like to buy any of them, we recommend you visit The Inner Bookshop or Cygnus Books, who are both excellent sources for Mind, Body, Spirit titles.

Advice from Angels
Chrissie Astell
Godsfield Press 2005

A treasure trove of beautiful messages, poems, prayers and visualisations.

Ageless Body, Timeless Mind
Deepak Chopra
Rider, London 1993

Everyone should read this book that explains the relationship between our soul and our body. Deepak will really help you understand your own divine nature.

How to Know God
Deepak Chopra
Rider, New York 2000

A wise guide to the different pathways to spiritual wisdom.

Angels in our Time
Ishvara d'Angelo
O Books, October 2006

Ishavara is an angel visionary with a powerful gift for painting her visions. This unusual book not only helps you to work with the four Archangels, Michael, Raphael, Auriel and Gabriel, but has reproductions of Ishvara's beautiful images.

Dictionary of Angels
Gustav Davidson
Free Press New, York & Collier Macmillan, London 1967

This is the classic reference book on angels. It was given to me nearly ten years ago by a kabbalist who had read my first book, Discovering Angels. I was glad I hadn't found it earlier because I was working with the angels inwardly and didn't want to be influenced by other people's books. Recently I have noticed how many angel writers are using this book (and rarely giving Gustav credit!) in order to create their lists of useful angels. Pages and pages of angel names for the angel questor!

Choose your Thoughts, Change your Life
Jane Duncan
Living Well, Oxford 1997

Jane was the first UK teacher trained by Louise Hay, who recommends this book herself. A neat and accessible approach to positive affirmations, and how to really make them work in your life.

Children and Angels
Glennyce Eckersley
Rider, London 1999

Beautiful stories about children's experiences with angels.

The Dark Side of the Light Chasers
Debbie Ford
Hodder & Stoughton, London 2001

So many people are talking about the 'light', but Debbie Ford's books offer powerful and essential insights into the shadows that we all have to deal with on our spiritual journey.

The Secret of the Shadow
Debbie Ford
Hodder & Stoughton, London 2002

Continuing the themes of her previous book (above).

The Physics of Angels
Matthew Fox & Rupert Sheldrake
HarperSanFrancisco, New York 1996

An excommunicated Christian and a scientist discuss the visions of the mystics - such as Hildegarde of Bingen - and the way their visions might relate to quantum physics. Everyone interested in angels should read this.

Angels of Mercy
Rosemary Ellen Guilley
Simon and Schuster, New York 1994

Rosemary has collected many inspiring stories. She is a good journalist and her reporting has integrity.

Encylopaedia of Angels
Rosemary Ellen Guilley
Facts on File, New York 1996

Another excellent contribution to our knowledge - includes stories of angel visionaries, like Godfrey Hodson and Dorothy McLean at Findhorn.

The Crystal Bible
Judy Hall
Godsfield Press 2003

The best reference book on crystals I have found. Judy Hall is a fount of wisdom and offers beautiful pictorial guide for the beginner, but this will also be a treasure for the expert.

The Magic of Findhorn
Paul Hawken
Bantam Books, New York & London 1976

How the nature spirits worked with the early settlers at Findhorn. Includes the wonderful story of Roc meeting Pan in the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens.

Seeing Angels
Emma Heathcote-James
Blake Publishing, London, 2001

Based on Emma's Ph.D. research into modern angel experiences in the UK.

The Brotherhood of Angels and Men
Geoffrey Hodson
Theosophical Publishing House, Madras 1972 (1952)

Geoffrey Hodson was a Theosophist conducting spiritual research into ethereal realms during the 1920's, long before the topic of angels became popular in the UK and the United States. If you can find a copy of The Kingdom of the Gods you will be delighted by the exquisite illustrations by Ethelwynne M. Quail, which I find do almost capture the elusive qualities of angel energy.

Loving what Is
Byron Katie
Rider, London 2002

This is a beautiful book which offers a simple four-step process to assist us in letting go of our 'stuff'. Magic!

A Company of Angels
David Lawson
Findhorn Press, Forres 1998

This is a beautiful and wise contribution to angel literature - and I agree with David that 'dominions, powers and principalities' in St. Paul's letters do not refer to heavenly hierarchies but to earthly society.

To Hear the Angels Sing
Dorothy Maclean
Findhorn Press, Scotland 1984

Dorothy's own account of the Findhorn angels and nature spirits.

Celtic Angels
Donald McKinney
Hodder Mobius, 2005

Donald brings ancient Celtic wisdom about angels to life in his magical book.

The Power of Now
Eckhardt Tolle
Hodder & Stoughton, London 1999

A simple and potent message: live in the now, give up trying to control the future and feel the real power of life as it flows through you.
